GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

  1. All elements in all classes will be judged on quality, condition, and cleanliness.
  2. The judging requirements below are based on a 200 point system and are ONLY for the generation classes (Heavily, Lightly, and Open Modified). The other awards and honorable mentions will be the judges' discretion.
  3. Judges choice will not use scoring of any kind, just the judges overall impressions.
  4. All participants of the Drag Showdown will not be penalized by lack of drag racing related cleanliness.
  5. All vehicles will be entered into their appropriate class on the day of the event as per the judges' decision.
  6. Vehicle Modification Lists displayed in your engine bay are encouraged.

CLASS DESIGNATIONS EXPLAINED

Vehicles entered into the HEAVILY MODIFIED class should be cars that have any of the following:

  1. Turbo/Supercharger/Nitrous
  2. Any kind of full body kit

OR

More than 5 TOTAL of the following "major" mods:

  1. Exhaust
  2. Aftermarket Rims
  3. BBK (Big Brake Kit)
  4. Coilovers
  5. Springs/struts
  6. Swaybars
  7. Headers/ypipe
  8. Major lighting (headlight swap, etc)
  9. Partial body kit/lips
  10. SFCs or LTBs
  11. Major interior mods (race seats, custom seat covers)
  12. Custom paint job
  13. Other individual mods that cost over about $500.

For example, a 5th gen Maxima that only has a drop, rims, catback, and BBK (4 mods total) would still be in the "lightly modded" class.

All cars will be classed upon arrival by the judging committee. These class designations are only to be used as a guideline to give you a general idea of which class you may qualify for.


JUDGING REQUIREMENTS

ENGINE & ENGINE COMPARTMENT (60 points possible)

A “Perfect Score” according to the following rules is considered to be a five (5). A score above a five (5) may be given up to a maximum of ten (10) points for any items that meet and exceed the “Perfect Score.” An item such as a polished but leaking valve cover may receive a deduction for the leak but additional points for the modification of the cover for an example of an eight (8).

1) 10 PTS - BELTS, HOSES, RADIATOR, AND EMISSIONS
Radiator / Fan, Fan Clutch - Perfect score requires radiator to be visibly in perfect condition (no dents, paint perfect, etc.) Deduct for damage, poor finish, corrosion, poor cap. Fan assembly, or fan blades and fan clutch must appear in perfect condition.
Belts - Perfect score would require little or no obvious wear, all belts present, and pulleys in perfect condition (color and finish). Deduct for condition of belts, pulleys. Extra points may be awarded for aftermarket pulleys etc.
Hoses / Clamps - Perfect score for hoses in excellent condition and clamps in excellent condition (all). Deduct for condition, different types of clamps, poor plating, missing, etc.
Air conditioning lines - Perfect score for lines in good condition, clean without corrosion, and no leaks. Additional points for polished lines.

2) 10 PTS - ENGINE MECHANICAL
Engine Block / Pan - Perfect score requires excellent paint finish and color, no oil or coolant leaks, engine mounts and fasteners in perfect condition. Deduct for missing fasteners, poor finish, leaks, corrosion, etc.
Cylinder Head / Valve Cover - Perfect score requires excellent condition heads. Valve cover excellent finish, no leaks. Deduct for appearance, leaks, corrosion. Extra points may be awarded for modified valve covers and coil pack covers.
Fuel System - Perfect score for fuel pump, fuel rail injectors have no leaks, excellent finish. Filter and fuel hoses in perfect condition, etc.
Linkage - Perfect score requires excellent finish, little wear, boots and related hardware in excellent condition. Deduct for poor finish.

3) 10 PTS - ENGINE BAY PAINT AND APPEARANCE
- Judge underhood fit and finish. Perfect score requires excellent color, paint in perfect condition. Deduct for stains, paint chips, flaking, corrosion, etc.
Decals / Labels - Perfect score requires underhood labels to be in proper place and correct to model (emissions sticker, paint code, etc.). Deduct for poor condition of labels. If no labels are present score zero (0) deduction. Well-placed aftermarket decals and paiting may add points.

4) 10 PTS - ELECTRICAL
Electrical - Perfect score requires components in perfect appearance and finish. Deduct if wiring in poor condition, connectors in poor condition, poor finish, corrosion, etc.
Battery and Tray / Terminals / Cables - Battery must be in excellent condition for perfect score. Deduct for poor condition. Inspect tray and cable ends for condition. Inspect condition of cables and grounds for wear. Deduct if corrosion or rust present. Additional point may be awarded for aftermarket batteries and terminals.

5) 10 PTS - INTAKE/EXHAUST MANIFOLDS - Perfect score requires manifolds in perfect condition. Deduct for poor condition, missing attachment bolts, corrosion or rust present. Extra points may be awarded for custom (5th gen manifold on a 4th gen, MEVI) or other intake manifold. Additional points may be awarded for aftermarket Y-Pipe or headers.

6) 10 PTS - ENGINE ADD-ONS - An additional 10 points are available for engine add-ons, ranging from turbos to superchargers to catch cans or other engine bay accessories not addressed in the above categories. For full points, multiple add-ons must be installed correctly and in excellent condition. Points may be deducted for stupid add-ons ("the tornado")

INTERIOR AREA (60 points possible)

A "Perfect Score" according to the following rules is considered to be a five (5). A score above a five (5) may be given up to a maximum of ten (10) points (see notes on stereo/radio) for any items that meet and exceed the "Perfect Score," such as aftermarket upgrdes, done well. An item such as a custom leather shift boot may earn extra points but also receive deductions for cracked and damaged leather scoring a total of eight (8) points.

1) 10PTS - Dash area - Perfect score requires dash pad with little or no visible wear, no cracks or discoloration, small deduction for slight cracks to original pad, dash cover, glove box. Additional points may be awarded for modifications
Gauges / Vents - Perfect score requires gauges to be excellent in appearance, Lenses clear and free from cracks, faces in top condition, Deduct for imperfections. Additional points may be awarded for aftermarket gauges, but points may be deducted if they do not match.
Steering Wheel / Horn Pad - Perfect score requires steering wheel in perfect condition (wood wheels not chipped or flaking finish). Molded wheels without cracks and not badly faded or worn. Horn pads and emblems must be in “as new” condition. Aftermarket steering wheels that delete the airbag feature receive an automatic deduction of three (3) points due to safety issues but may earn points for style.

2) 10PTS - Console / Shifter / Parking Brake - Judge on appearance of console, shifter and boot. Deduct for chips, cracking, etc. Deduct if shift boot torn or exhibits bad wear or tears. Custom modifications may earn additional points.

3) 10PTS - Interior General - Judge for visors, color and condition, brackets, mirror where so equipped or passenger and drivers sides. Deduct for flaws. Additions for modifications.
Mirror - Perfect score for mirror in excellent condition, tight in bracket, bracket condition perfect, mirror surface and day/night feature flawless (where equipped). Deduct for imperfections in same.
Headliner - Perfect score requires headliner to be in excellent condition no tears or sagging, no bad creases. Deduct for less than perfect appearance.
Dome Light - Perfect score requires dome light to be in good condition
Carpet - Judge all interior carpeting together (floors, tunnel, rear trunk). Inspect for fading, wear, tears and poor fit. Deduct for imperfections.
Trim Panels - Inspect all interior trim panels except door panels, check rear trim for missing or broken fasteners, etc. Deduct for badly worn or missing panels, fasteners, etc. (front and rear).

4) 10PTS - Seats - Perfect scoring requires seats to be in “like new condition”, no tears or wear visible. Deduct for improper or worn conditions, twisted/broken seat backs, poor cushion appearance, etc. Additional points may be awarded for custom interior or custom seat covers
Sills - Inspect door sills with doors open to check latch and striker assemblies. Inspect threshold trim. Deduct for less than excellent condition or worn components. Points may be awarded for modified door sills or leather replacements.
Door Panels / Armrests - Inspect door panels for wear and tears or distortion. Trim should be intact and perfect condition. Armrests should be “as new.” Panels should be properly secured to door. Deduct for imperfections.
Pedals - Inspect pedals for excessive edge wear or tears in rubber. Inspect paint finish on pedal arms and deduct for wear, dirt, tears, etc. Additional points may be awarded for aftermarket pedals.

5) 20PTS - Radio - Radio should be as professionally installed in appearance. Score perfect assuming trim and faceplate is in perfect condition. Deduct for scratches or poor installation (crooked, scratches on trim panels, cracked or broken trim pieces around radio). Additional points may be given for aftermarket system. This category, due to options, can earn up to a possible twenty (20) points. The Fifteen (15) additional points for stereo should consist of up to five (5) for head unit and interior speakers, up to five (5) for amplifiers and subwoofers, and up to five (5) for quality of overall stereo install.

EXTERIOR AREA (70 points possible)

A “Perfect Score” according to the following rules is considered to be a five (5). A score above a five (5) may be given up to a maximum of ten (10) points for any items that meet and exceed the “Perfect Score.” An item such as a chrome grille with bent bars may receive a deduction for the damage but additional points for the modification of the grille for an example of an eight (8).


1) 10 PTS - Wheels / Hubcaps - Wheels and hubcaps, where equipped. Judge on condition with deductions for poor finish, dents or curb marks. Extra points for wheel style if applicable.
Tires - Tires must be in excellent condition. Deduct if tires weather checked or uneven wear. No deductions for treadwear as long as tire tread is above the wear indicator and safe

2) 10 PTS - Exterior General
Paint/ Glass / Weather Stripping- Paint must have excellent color, gloss and finish. Deduct for orange peel, discoloration, rust, scratches, blemishes, etc.
Check all exterior glass for condition. Deduct for stone chips, repairs, sand etching of windscreen, scratches, dirt, etc. Inspect all exterior rubber for condition and fit. Deduct for missing pieces, poor fit or wear.
Body Panels - Sight down body panels and across hood, roof and hatch for straightness of panels. Deduct if waves, dings, or distorted panels exist.
Fit and Finish (Seams) - Check all body seams (i.e. around doors, hood, hatch, headlights and cowl). Deduct for poor alignment, poor fit, rust, etc.
Mirrors - Judge exterior mirrors for condition and finish. Deduct for broken or missing lenses, poor housings.
Antenna – Judge antenna for condition and finish, if applicable. Deduct for broken antenna or poor condition.
Trim - Inspect emblems, moldings and striping (where so equipped). Deduct for wear, poor fit, etc.
Additional points may be added for aftermarket mirrors, carbon fiber trim overlays, well-done debadging, etc.
Grill / Valance - Inspect grill and valance area for fit and finish. Deduct for bent bars, poor trim or grill, poor paint, etc.

3) 10 PTS - Lights / Side Markers -- Inspect headlights and taillights for condition and plating where applicable. Check side marker lights and other exterior lights for condition. Deduct for scratches on lights or mounting brackets. Extra points may be awarded for LEDs, turn signal indicators, or clear sidemarker lights.

4) 10 PTS - Exhaust - Check exhaust for condition and fit. Check for abnormal rust or deterioration. Mufflers must be in excellent condition. Deduct for pitting, rust or wear.

5) 10 PTS - Brakes - Check braking system to include master cylinder condition and fluid level, Check condition of calipers and rotors for rust, corrosion, etc. Check line condition. Point upgrades for aftermarket calipers, rotors, lines

6) 20 PTS - Suspension - Check suspension, where visible, for good finish. Deduct for poor component condition or excessive lowering. Extra points may be awarded for aftermarket tie bars, sway bars, coilovers, subframe connectors, etc.
a total of 20 points will be available for this category. 5 points for stock and an additional 15 pts for modifications.

BONUS POINTS - 10 BONUS POINTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE JUDGES TO GIVE FOR OTHER FACTORS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE CATEGORIES AND/OR THE JUDGES' OVERALL OPINION OF THE CAR OR "COMPLETE PACKAGE"
